oris1 Oris has been knocking them out of the park of late, and they brought their A-game to a recent event we hosted in NYC. The guest of honor was Philip Brashear, the son of US Navy Diver, Carl Brashear, who was on hand to talk about his father’s groundbreaking career, as well as the limited edition watch that bears his name.

For those who don't know, Carl Brashear was not only the first African-American U.S. Navy Diver, but also the first amputee to become certified as such (this, after an incident later in his career cost him his left leg).

From l-to-r: RedBar founder, Adam Craniotes; Philip Brashear; and Oris president, VJ Geronimo

After an introduction by Oris US President, VJ Geronimo, and a stirring presentation by Mr. Brashear, RedBar members took the time to review the latest Oris timepieces and speak one on one with Philip, whom, it must be said, has some interesting stories of his own.

The Carl Brashear LE on the wrist

And what of the watch? The Carl Brashear LE is based on the insanely popular Divers 65, but with an added twist: instead of a stainless steel, the case is crafted from marine-grade bronze, in tribute to the gear that Master Chief Petty Officer Brashear wore during his dives. With only 2000 made, these won’t be available for long.
