Macro Monday: Bulova 1972 Oceanographer “Devil Diver” Reissue

Nicknamed the “Devil Diver” for its 666 foot water resistance, the classic 1972 Oceanographer was reissued as the 2018 Baselworld addition to the Bulova Archive Series Collection. The collection launched in 2016, later partnering with Analog/Shift to cast a vote on which piece to reissue. The vote came down to the classic 1972 Oceanographer “Devil Diver”, the 1970 Surfboard Chronograph A., or the 1970 Bullhead Chronograph. The famous “Devil Diver” won and continued its notorious journey in the watch world. Where most would place only 600 foot water resistance on their watch in fear of the religious connotations associated with the number 666, Bulova embraced the number boldly and this historic piece has continued to catch the attention of watch collectors ever since.
